STARTS TODAY

To mark this important week, Richmond Carers Centre is offering a comprehensive programme of free activities and workshops throughout June, thanks to generous support from OneRichmond. This initiative reflects our commitment to recognising and valuing the vital role of unpaid carers in our community.

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring and help people to identify as carers and access much-needed support.

Charities, organisations and individuals get together to show support for the millions of unpaid carers in the UK and to spread the word about the challenges they face and what needs to be done to improve their daily lives.

The theme for 2025 is ‘Caring about Equality’, drawing attention to the inequalities unpaid carers often experience, such as a higher risk of poverty, social isolation, and poor health.

This Carers Week, communities across the UK will come together to recognise the huge contribution unpaid carers make to society. Politicians, employers, health and social services, businesses, education providers and members of the public all have a role to play in raising awareness of caring and making sure carers are able to access the information and support they need. Richmond Carers Centre has planned an exciting range of activities and workshops for carers throughout June. These include:

Write to your MP

Carers Week is a great opportunity to encourage MPs to champion carers in their communities. Take part in a new campaign and ask your MP to help build carer friendly communities in your area.

This year, the Carers Week Team is calling for action across the UK to ensure more communities recognise, value and support unpaid carers. It wants to see real and lasting change for carers in our schools, colleges and universities; our health and social care services; our workplaces and businesses; and out and about in the wider community.

Your MP can help make a difference by:

  • taking local action to make your area more carer friendly
  • raising the voices of unpaid carers in Parliament
  • encouraging wider Government action to better support carers
  • becoming a Carer Champion, a new initiative launching this Carers Week to encourage MPs to work year-round with carers in their constituency

That is why it is so important MPs hear from constituents like you, so they understand why helping to build carer friendly communities in your area really matters.

The Carers Week Team has prepared an online template message for you to send to your MP.

To participate, visit Carers Week’s campaign page and send a message to your MP today.
