Whether you are attending a GP appointment for yourself or to support your cared for, many of us might feel that we come away from a GP appointment with the thought, “I wish I had mentioned that” or “I forgot to say something about xxx.”
Most GP appointments are just 10 minutes long. That does not give you much time to explain your symptoms, get a diagnosis, discuss a treatment plan, and get your questions answered. As a lot of people find it difficult enough to get an appointment in the first place, it is important to get as much out of it as possible.
Healthwatch Richmond have published a guide How to get the most out of your GP appointment to help you to maximise your appointment.
To try and get the most out of the time, go prepared. Plan ahead what you need to tell the doctor, do not try to talk about too many things, and always start with the most important issue.
