As part of Carers Week 2025, Carers Trust UK is offering a free online information session designed to support and inform unpaid carers about an important topic: Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) and Deputyships.
Why This Session Matters
When you are looking after a loved one, it is important to understand the legal tools that can help you support them—particularly if they are unable to make decisions themselves. This session will guide you through two key areas:
- Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) – what it is, when it should be set up and how it works
- Deputyships – how they differ from LPAs, when they are necessary and how to apply for one
Whether you are new to caring or have been supporting someone for a while, this session will provide essential knowledge to help you navigate these legal processes with more confidence.
Who is it for
This event is open to all unpaid carers across the UK. Whether you are caring for an older parent, a partner, a child with additional needs, or a friend, understanding legal responsibilities is a vital part of your caring role.
What to expect
Led by an experienced legal professional, this session will:
- Explain the purpose and process of LPAs and Deputyships in plain English
- Explore common scenarios where these tools are useful
- Provide guidance on applying for each
- Offer a Q&A opportunity to ask your own questions
This event is ideal for carers who want to be prepared for the future, protect their loved ones’ wishes, and reduce uncertainty when it comes to managing finances and health decisions.
