How to Save Energy Costs and Still Keep Warm

We all know the impact of colder weather on our lives –  wrapping up warm when going out and keeping warm inside. The cost of heating and lighting is something to consider carefully as you manage your family budget. South West London Environment Network (SWLEN) is a charity based at ETNA in East Twickenham and is here to help. We can show you ways to save energy, save you money and help the environment.

Our Home Energy Visits are free and funded by Heathrow Community Fund’s Communities For Tomorrow for anyone living in the London Borough of Richmond.

Over the past six years, SWLEN has completed many visits across the borough and shown residents and organisations how even the smallest changes such as swapping to LED light bulbs can make a real difference. We can also help you to find a grant to cover the costs of larger improvements such as insulation.

What is an Energy Visit and how do I book one?

Two of our fully trained advisors will visit your home at a time to suit you. The visit takes an hour or more depending on the size of the property and how much discussion we have.

We look at your energy usage, heating systems, insulation, lighting and energy behaviours (such as leaving on lights in empty rooms!). We can lend you energy saving equipment such as an Owl electricity monitor and fit at no cost reflective radiator foil, insulation materials and low energy lights. We give you a ‘top tips’ report outlining the immediate and long-term changes you can make to reduce your energy use. The average saving for a home is £80 – £150 per year or even more, making a real difference to your finances.

We work in homes from October – April as visits are most useful during the colder months when your heating is operating and we can check for cold spots etc. To book a visit or get more information, please contact our Energy Coordinator, Susan Chappell on susan@swlen.org.uk or call on 07764 194 619
