The Poise Project® is offering free two-day workshops in London in June as part of an initiative to bring these courses to the UK in order to serve family care partners and people living with Parkinson’s and their families. These workshops were developed by The Poise Project®, a US nonprofit, with funding from the Parkinson’s Foundation, and were researched through the University of Idaho. Its research can be viewed here: https://www.thepoiseproject.org/tpp-research
Who is is for?
WORKSHOP 1 – Partnering with Poise: Caring for the Care Partner
This workshop is for family carers of people living with long term care needs. It supports a family carer’s own needs, independent of their care receiver.
Partnering with Poise is a program of The Poise Project® with the mission of helping the public maintain poise, dignity, and personal growth throughout all stages and challenges of life using the principles of Alexander technique (AT). This workshop was first developed with a grant from the Parkinson’s Foundation.
Alexander technique (AT) is a well-established embodiment training that performing artists have been using for decades to help manage stressful circumstances, reduce anxiety, avoid pain or injury, and move more enjoyably.
WORKSHOP 2 – Poised for Parkinson’s: Manage Balance, Walking & Freezing of Gait
This workshop is for people living with Parkinson’s and their family care partners to take together. It teaches unique skills to help manage balance, walking, and freezing of gait.
Learn new skills to improve your balance, walking, and prevent ‘freezing‘ episodes. Increase your confidence and improve your overall quality of life. These skills can be applied any time during your daily life as well as during any of your exercise classes or therapy sessions. Care partners get their own particular benefits too.
