Unpaid carers play a vital role in supporting family members, friends and loved ones every day. A student team at the Royal College of Arts in London is carrying out a research project that aims to better understand the wellbeing, mental health and everyday experiences of people who provide unpaid care. They are inviting carers to take part and share their perspectives.
About the research
The study explores how caring responsibilities shape daily life, emotional wellbeing and mental health. By listening to carers’ stories and reflections, the researchers hope to build a clearer understanding of what supports carers, what challenges they face and what changes could make a positive difference.
Taking part is an opportunity to share your experiences in a safe and respectful setting and to help improve understanding of carers’ needs.
Who is it for
Adults aged 18 or over who provide unpaid care for a family member, friend or loved one are invited to participate. You may be currently caring or have recent experience of caring.
What is involved
Participation is flexible and designed to fit around your availability and comfort level. You can choose to take part in whichever way suits you best:
- A friendly conversation or interview in person or online
- Written or audio reflections
- The option to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with
Participation is voluntary. Conversations are confidential and you can withdraw at any time. The project has received university ethics approval.
Why take part
By sharing your experiences, you will help ensure that carers’ voices are heard and reflected in research. Your insights can contribute to a better understanding of carers’ wellbeing and may help shape future support.

If you would like to learn more or are interested in taking part, you can contact the researcher directly.
