Designability is an innovation charity that works to create equality for disabled people and those who care for them. The world is often not designed with everyone in mind and this can lead to barriers that limit independence and dignity. To address this problem the charity has launched a major national research project called The Unfair Index.
The goal of the research is to identify the areas of everyday life where unfairness is most urgent and harmful. By gathering the lived experiences of thousands of people across the United Kingdom the charity aims to pinpoint where design is letting people down. This evidence will be used to influence how products and services are built in the future to ensure they work for everyone.
Who is it for
Unpaid carers and parents of disabled children or adults play a vital role in this project. Your daily insights into the barriers you and the person you care for encounter are essential for creating real change.

Participants are invited to complete six surveys that cover different aspects of modern life. These areas include:
- Home life and managing money
- Work and learning
- Technology and online experiences
- Getting out and about in public spaces
- Health and wellbeing
- Social and community life

The surveys are available in multiple formats including standard and easy read to ensure they are accessible to all. Your contribution will help the charity set its priorities for the next few years and provide a roadmap for designers and policymakers to do better.
