Unpaid carers play an essential role in supporting those living with cancer. However, the personal and financial sacrifices involved in this level of care are often overlooked. To address this, a new research project is being conducted to better understand the lived experiences of people who care for someone with cancer. This study aims to ensure that future support services and policies reflect what truly matters to those on the front line of care.
A call for carer perspectives
The University of Manchester, in partnership with Cancer Research UK, is inviting unpaid carers to help guide this vital work. The researchers believe that personal experience is the most valuable form of expertise. You do not need any medical knowledge to participate; your unique perspective as a carer is exactly what is required to shape the direction of the study.
What is involved in the study
The project has been designed to be as accessible as possible for those with busy caregiving schedules. Participation involves:
- Low Time Commitment: You will be invited to join infrequent online meetings. These sessions typically last approximately one to two hours and occur every few months
- Sharing Your Perspective: The focus is on your personal journey and the financial impacts you have encountered. Your input will ensure the research remains grounded in reality
- Compensation for Your Time: The researchers value your contribution and will provide payment for the time you dedicate to the project
How participate
By participating in this research, you have the opportunity to influence how the financial impacts of caregiving are understood and addressed on a national scale. Your voice can help build a better support system for future carers.
If you have experience caring for someone with cancer and would like to help guide this work, please reach out to the lead researcher.
