Helping Carers to Live Well is our organisational aim. We provide a targeted service to young carers, aged 5 – 18 years. Young carers, provide vital emotional and practical support to a family member with a care need including sibling young carers. Their care role can have an impact on their wellbeing, education and social opportunities. We are looking for someone with the skills and ability to offer a coordinated approach in supporting young carers in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames through our activity programme during school holidays and after school groups in term-time.
The Young Carers Team delivers of a range of services for young carers, including information and advice, emotional support, mentoring, promoting awareness of young carers and a wide selection of group activities, both term-time and in the school holiday programme.
As Young Carers Activities Coordinator you will be part of a small dedicated team and directly deliver the leisure break activity programme. You will plan, deliver, promote and review a programme of activities for the school holiday periods, after school groups and occasional weekends for young carers. The core aim of the activity programme is to provide young carers with a much needed break from their caring responsibilities, in a safe and social environment where they can meet other young carers and to maintain their wellbeing.
Using your strong organisational and team skills, you will be responsible for organising, budgeting and carrying out risk assessments for the delivery of the activities programme, including leading and participating in the activities.
Using your creativity and innovative thinking, you will plan, research and effectively manage your budget to provide the most appealing and cost effective school holiday programme and after school groups to maximise the number of breaks we can offer to young carers. You will create a programme with an emphasis on having fun, spending time with other young carers, enabling peer support and developing their self-esteem and confidence.
You will demonstrate your ability and experience to plan a broad and exciting spectrum of activities that is appealing to young carers and provides them with a crucial break from their caring role. Building and maintaining relationships, both within our organisation and externally to develop and maintain the activities programme for young carers is key to the role.
With your proven knowledge of working with children and young people, families, carers or other vulnerable groups on an individual and/or group basis, you will recognise the importance of being client focused and have a commitment to enhance the lives of young carers and their families. You will be able to demonstrate a broad knowledge of young carer’s needs, a wide range of skills in relation to working with children and young people and to support the service delivery of the leisure breaks and activities programme.
You will be self-motivated and positive in your approach to working with both young carers, their families and team members, and have a willingness to embrace our organisational values. Being innovative and creative, you will identify and implement a range of support mechanisms for young carers, in particular the school holiday programme and after school groups, enhancing their wellbeing and supporting them to achieve identified goals. Strong administrative, time management, IT and organisational skills are essential. Your ability and willingness to regularly work outside normal working hours is required.
